| Argyranthemum Also called the Marguerite daisy, Argyranthemum is a versatile annual that provides a great color display during the summer months. Historically grown for cut flower usage, it is catching on as an ideal annual suitable for containers, rock gardens, and borders. It has a fast growing, mounding habit and is available in many varieties to suit anyone’s taste. Argyranthemum grows 18 to 24 inches in height and spreads anywhere from 18 to 36 inches wide. Pinch plants to reach the height you like and to produce a full, bushy appearance. Its foliage can have a fine, thread-like appearance or a rough texture and can range from dark green to silvery hued. Argyranthemum is available in many varieties that differ in foliage type, blossom color, size and flower form. Popular colors are white, pink, and yellow and they appear quite similar to a daisy with their dark-colored center. Single, semidouble and double flowers range from 2 to 3 inches in diameter and are striking in the garden or as a cut flower. Their vase life is about one week, and in a mixed bouquet you’d be hard pressed to find a more cheerful flower. Hardy in zones 10 and 11, Argyranthemum should be planted after the threat of frost has passed. Plant in full to part sunshine and provide average, well-drained soil. Flowering will decline in excessive humidity, but aside from that, this annual will bloom happily from late Spring to early Fall with very little maintenance. | ![]() |
