| Sutera Bacopa is a versatile garden plant that has recently made a name for itself in the container world. It does not grow as profusely as some annuals, but its flowers are strikingly dainty and come in eautiful colors. It is versatile and undemanding in the garden, and growers continue to introduce varieties that grow more vigorously, have larger flowers, and a better heat tolerance. What’s not to love about this unassuming annual! Bacopa has small flowers with five wide lobes that pack quite a punch since it has a dense growth habit. The most popular colors are pink, violet, blue and white, but growers continue to impress with new varieties and colors which are arger flowered and sometimes bicolored. Bacopa will grow 3 to 12 inches tall, but can spread from 12-24 inches by the end of the summer if grown under the right conditions. Bacopa thrives in full to part sun and will bloom very heavily unless conditions are too dry. It requires average, evenly moist and well-drained soil that’s preferably on the acidic side. Fertilize often during the summer heat for best results, and keep plants well-watered or flowers will drop. No deadheading is needed for this self-cleaning annual. Use bacopa in containers, hanging baskets, rock gardens or for ground cover for maximum impact. They should bloom from Spring until early Fall or the first frost and are considered ardy in zones 9 to 11. | ![]() |
